The following are programs that the Fry Fire District used in Public Education:
Haunted
House: Multiple agencies came together to make a haunted house at the
local mall. The proceeds went to the Fraternal Order of Police who in turn donated $3,500.00 to the
"Firefighters Public Education Fund".
Firefighters Food and Toy
Drive: Food, toys, and money collected by firefighters of the Fry Fire District and Sierra Vista Fire Department to provide needy families with food and toys on Christmas. Approximately 325 families in the greater Sierra Vista area benefited from this program.
Bike Helmet
Program: We received over 600 helmets from the Department of Health Services for distribution to needy kids. We go to elementary schools and use a program "Helmet Your Brain Avoid the Pain" to teach kids about helmet safety and the proper way to wear their helmets. This also gives us a chance to see which kids do not have a bike helmet so we can be sure to get them one. We also pass out business cards with a "free bike helmet" stamped on them to kids riding without a helmet, all they have to do is bring a parent to the station and we will give them a helmet
for
FREE.
Car Seat
Program: We received over 300 car seats from the
Department of Health Services for distribution to needy families. We also have
8-certified technicians who are certified on how to properly install car seats. We teach parents the proper way to install their child's car seat and if they are unable to afford a car seat we will give them one.

Call to
Protect: In this program we are a collection point for used unwanted cell phones. The phones are
then turned over to a local cell phone vendor who
will then check them and reprogram with "911" and
then distributed them back out to the Sierra Vista
Public Schools. The cell phones are used as a
back-up to the hardwired phones in case of
emergencies. We have provided over 100-working
cells phones to classrooms.
F.A.R.M.: "Firefighters as Role Models" is a program where an Engine Company goes to a school and has lunch with the kids. They are there to just hang out with the kids and be positive role models for them or go to classes to read to the kids. All this is done to give the children a chance to get to know their local firefighters and start feeling comfortable around them.
911 Relief
Fund: The Fry Fire District and Sierra Vista Fire Department joined together to raise funds for the families of the firefighters lost on 9/11. We raised
over $32,000.00 for this cause.
Supplies for the
Wise: Program is used to raise money so that we can purchase schools supplies and distribute them out equally to the local schools.
Fire Safety Obstacle
Course: We are unable to buy a smoke house at this time, so we built our own in order to have a way to teach kids about fire safety. All the materials and time used to build this prop were donated.
Watch for our new traveling
smoke house coming in 2005!
